Like most cosmetic procedures, hair transplants are a very personal, private experience. The procedure is more advanced than ever, and there’s more information available to potential patients. Here are three things anyone who is interested in getting a hair transplant needs to know, whether you’re looking to move forward with it…Read More
The FUT or “strip” method has been the traditional method used for the past twenty to thirty years to remove hair grafts from the donor area. In this method, a one cm strip of skin is surgically removed and the grafts are separated (with the help of surgical microscopes) and prepared for replanting. These hair grafts are taken from the “safe” donor zone and therefore genetically programmed not to fall out as hair loss progresses.
The recipient area preparation and insertion of the grafts do not vary in any way from the FUE method.
Once the strip of skin is removed, hair transplant technicians very carefully dissect individual follicular units under specialized microscopes. The follicular units consist of anywhere from one to four hairs. The grafts are separated into piles consisting of the number of hairs in that unit.

I called Sacramento Hair Doctor because I was experiencing rapid hair loss. I needed to find the right place to go for the treatment. I now have regained my hair and am able to style it. I appreciate having my hair back. I am really happy with the results. The whole procedure wasn’t bad either, I was in and out in about 5 hours and there was no pain. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Prasad and her team.*
Most hair transplant surgeons feel that the strip method and follicular dissection lead to a better quality graft without damage to the follicle, which can occur with the FUE method. With this in mind, it is essential to look at both procedures, and with the advice of Dr. Prasad, make an informed decision as to which is the best hair replacement procedure for you.
With newer techniques, the scar from the strip procedure is very minimal and most patients do not find it objectionable.*
