Are you tired of shaving your head to hide the fact that you have lost hair? Are you tired of wearing your hat all the time or doing comb overs to hide that hair loss? You are not alone and you may be ready for a more long-lasting solution. Transplant is your solution to recouping that lost hair.
With this surgery, hair is transplanted from the back of your own scalp to the top of your head (in most cases). Occasionally, we have transplanted in other areas of the face, such as eyebrows, upper lip, beard and sideburns. You become both the donor and the recipient of your own hair.
The hair that is harvested from your donor site is hair that is genetically programmed so that it is not being affected by the DHT produced by your body, and therefore is “safe” and can be moved to the top of your head.

I was having problems with thinning hair at the front of my hairline that prompted me to call Dr. Prasad. My results so far have been thicker hair. The thinning in my hair was getting bad enough that I called for a hair transplant. Everyone in my experience was very nice.*
At Sacramento Hair Doctor, we perform both the FUE method and the FUT method, based on what suits your needs best. There are three basic steps to the transplant surgery:
After adequate numbing, the donor hair is removed from your donor zone. This donor zone is the area at the bottom of the head and above the neck area. If using the FUT method, then a sliver of skin is removed and taken over to the surgical microscopes, where it is dissected to yield individual grafts. If using the FUE method, individual hair follicles are extracted directly from the scalp.
While the grafts are being prepared (with either methods), the recipient area is numbed with local anesthesia. Once adequately numbed, the recipient sites are created to achieve the design that you have discussed with her previously. This is where the artistry of the hair transplant comes in, because it is the creation of these sites at proper angles, depth and spacing that determines great results.
The grafts are then meticulously and carefully placed in these sites by our amazing team who have had years of experience at placing grafts.
This is considered to be a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure and you will be able to return home at the end of the day. During the procedure, you are mildly sedated and have local anesthesia for numbing. You are able to converse with the staff or enjoy one of the many movies available while the procedure is being performed. For those driving long distances, Dr. Prasad recommends an overnight stay at a nearby hotel.
Final results can take up to eighteen months, but the majority of patients will see noticeable results at about twelve months.* Because it takes time for the hair to grow in gradually, most patients find that their friends and colleagues do not realize that they had transplant surgery but think that they are just looking better and looking younger.
FUT vs FUE
The FUT method is the traditional method of removing the donor area for hair transplant. With the advent of some of the newer technology, the FUE method has rapidly gained acceptance and is also being offered all over the world.
At Sacramento Hair Doctor, we have had great results with both procedures and are able to say with confidence that you will too, regardless of which method you choose. Dr. Prasad will discuss both methods with you and discuss the reasons that may make one method better than the other for you. Several factors may determine the best method for a patient, including: donor density, scalp tightness, previous surgeries, and the length of hair that the patient typically wears.
Typically, the cost of an FUT procedure is less because less time is involved in removing the surgical strip compared to removing individual grafts. This may be a factor for you when determining which process you prefer. Other factors may be the length of your hair and the time you have for recovery from the surgery. As stated above, all of these factors will be discussed in your consultation with Dr. Prasad and together we can make a decision that best suits your needs.
