For precise hair restoration with an even look and no visible scarring, FUE treatment in Sacramento is an excellent choice for many patients. When you choose the Sacramento Hair Doctor for your FUE treatment, specialist Dr. Nalini G. Prasad will be by your side every step of the way to maximize your hair restoration outcome.
Many common inquiries we receive about this procedure are addressed in the FUE treatment FAQ below to help patients gain a better understanding of what it is and what it can accomplish.
What Does FUE Mean?
FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. During this procedure, hair follicles are removed one by one from the donor site and then individually placed in the areas where you are experiencing hair loss, hair recession or balding.
How Does FUE Compare to other Hair Restoration Treatments?
Another technique for hair transplant surgery is commonly known as FUT. It involves removing a one centimeter-wide strip of hair from the donor area, separating the grafts with the use of microscopes and placing the grafts in the desired location. This can result in a linear scar, often requiring patients to grow the surrounding hair longer to cover it up.
Additionally, we offer laser therapy and medications to help improve your hairline. Ask Dr. Prasad during your consultation if FUE, FUT, laser, medications, or a combination of these remedies is the best option for your unique needs.
How Painful Is FUE?
Local anesthesia is used for pain control with FUE surgery. Oral medications and even laughing gas may be added if more pain control is needed. Use of these medications make the surgery very comfortable.
Will My FUE Results Look Natural?
Yes. By transplanting one follicle at a time, we have eliminated the old time “plug” look. This gives the results a much more natural look. The new hair will begin growing in about three or four months you will see good results by 8-12 months.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The exact number of sessions you’ll need depends on the degree of hair loss and desired growth density you are looking for. Some patients are satisfied with the results of one FUE treatment, while others opt to have additional follicles transferred after the initial session.
What Is the FUE Recovery Process Like?
We recommend that you take a few days off work to rest after your FUE treatment. You may experience some swelling or minor discomfort for these first few days of recovery. Keep your hair dry during this time.
After that, you’ll need to stick to gentle, unscented shampoos and avoid combing or brushing for three weeks, unless otherwise directed by Dr. Prasad. You will be provided with specific aftercare instructions prior to your surgery so you can prepare adequately for your post-op recovery.
How Much Does FUE Cost?
Some patients choose to start with a more limited, cost-effective treatment, while others wish to see a more significant change right away. The price of FUE treatment is specific to each patient based on the:
- Amount of area to be covered
- Number of hair follicles being transplanted
- Number of sessions needed
